Who was the greatest president of the United Stats of America? Why?

haha i often find myself asking the same thing...

well george washington because he like helped start the country, abraham lincoln because he stopped slavery and managed to keep us together through the civil war.

but then there's FDR who pulled us through the great depression, and then JFK.

so ir really don't know. i guess, if i had to pick, i would say George Washington.
Who was the greatest president of the United Stats of America? Why?
that's subjective, cause everyone will have there own answer, My personal Choice would be Abe Lincoln, cause with the emacipation proclumation he freed the slaves. Pity no one helped them come to terms with that freedom.
Who was the greatest president of the United Stats of America? Why?
Thomas Jefferson for buying the Louisiana Purchase.
Reply:GWB. He has done more to advance America in the minds of the rest of the world than any other president. Pity his greatness is because he was pretty much a negative influence.

Never mind that his influence was almost universally negative after he squandered the opportunity afforded to him after September 11 on petty war-mongering in Iraq. It can still be held that he certainly has had a "great" effect.
Reply:talk about a suggestive question. the answer depends on what are your criteria for greatness. there have been several great presidents in our nations history. you can put george washington on it for him being our first president, father of the new nation, thomas jefferson for his brilliance in the louisiana purchase, then you have james k. polk , who increased the size of the united states more than any other president through the acquisition of california and new mexico as a result of the mexican-american war. he also claimed oregon territory after a treaty with england. he was a key figure in manifest destiny. he was also an extremely effective leader during the the mexican-american War. he is considered to be the best one-term president. then you have lincoln, teddy roosevelt and his cousin franklin d. who led us through the great depression and ww2. out of all that i have read about the presidents, i would have to say james k polk was the greatest of them all mainly because he had four things that he set out to do for the nation and before he left office, accomplished all of them. no other president can say that.
Reply:The first harrison 'cause he keeled over dead pretty quickly.
