Is it true that muslims were fighting alongside nazis in world war II ? and why ?

Yes. The Arabs, led by the Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin Al-husseini, were strongly pro-Nazi, and later in the war there were Albanian Muslim SS units.

The main reason was their common hostility to the Jews - though it has to be said that the Nazis had actually promoted Jewish emigration to Palestine earlier on.

The muslims who fought for the allies did so as part of their colonial empires - Indian Muslims for the British, Moroccans for the French.

Most informed Arab Muslims, (I mean 'informed' with what counts for information in their part of the world) remain strongly pro-Nazi, but if you want to hear Muslim pro-Nazism in its strongest form, go to a Muslim convert. I remember the man who is now head of Islamic studies at Edinburgh University singing the praises of Hitler to me.

It was more of the Nazis desiring to remove British influence in the Middle East but never followed through with it. See below for more information:

The muslim world was divided during WW II. Some fought with the allies. Others fought beside Germany and Italy. Those who fought with Germany and Italy did so because they were sick of England and France taking over their territories.
Reply:Muslims fought on both sides.

Most fought on the side of the Allies.Mostly alongside US forces in The parcific.
Reply:Muslims(various forms of islam) and "arabs" of various other faiths, fought on both sides ,Most that fought for the nazi were seeking independence from french or brithish rule and were promised that by the germans, also Turkey (the remnants of the ottoman turkish empire) were german allies from way back...other groups, especially the various nomadic tribes, a mix of faiths and cultures fought for the allies, mostly hoping for independence and such rather than out of political unity with either side, they did as much fighting each other as they did the nazi ( read T.H lawrence, lawrence of arabia's 7 pillars and such for a clear idea of their actions),however some groups/nations did serve quite well and played important roles in pacifyingthe region around the MED and north africa. some of the "ethnic legions" of the nazi and of the british and french forces were (and some still are) loyal and valiant fighters ( there were some real bad #sses in some of those groups).
