Does anyone know of a civilization that flourished between 1100-1200?

Thanks

the one we think of today!

Well, for starters, Western European civilisation. It was hitting one of its high spots in the 12th century; agriculture and trade were flourishing, creating a large economic surplus which allowed art, science, literature and philosophy to blossom.
Reply:BC or AD?

If the former, then probably Egypt or Babylon or Assyria--Hittites had just been overrun by the Sea Peoples.

If the latter, then the Byzantines, whichever Muslim or Chinese dynasties were ruling at the time, or possibly some Amerindian predecessor of the Aztecs or Incas. 1100-1200 is just a little early for the Mongols, if I recall correctly.
Reply:It would have certainly been the Chinese, at this time the Song dynasty was ruling. It was at this time that Chinese scholars developed movable type printing, the magnetic compass and early uses of crude gunpowder weaponry.

As is typical of Chinese history though the Song lost the 'mandate' in 1271 when the Mongols conquered most of China.
