Reply:Motherfu c ker (also existing in contracted forms e.g. mofo, mudafucka, ma ******, or shortened to just "mother") is a common insult and profanity in American English and in other varieties of the English language. The term, widely viewed as an obscenity, enjoys a widespread usage through varying connotations[citation needed].

It can be used (Each of the following are quotes from various films):

As an explicit profanity: "Yippie Kai Yay mother fu c ker"

As a noun: "You one crazy motherf u cker!"

As an insult: "Cheese it!, F u ckin' motherf u cker!"

As an adjective of dislike: "I've had it with these motherf u cking snakes on this motherf u cking plane!"

As a synonym of 'very': "I am motherf u cking happy right now!"

As a verb: In the Dr. Dre song featuring Eminem, "Forgot About Dre", the lyric runs as follows: "Who you think brought you the oldies/ Eazy Es, Ice Cubes, and D.O.C.s/ The Snoop D-O-double-Gs / and the group that said motherf u ck the police?"
Reply:Would you believe Oedipus?

[Ok the Get Smart movie isn't out yet, but there's bound to be at least one instance of that old "would you believe?" relic in there]
Reply:The word f*ck is Anglo-Saxon (long story short people of lower Saxony then in Britain) and it has several possible origins.

'The word f*ck has cognates in other Germanic languages, such as German ficken (to copulate), Dutch fokken (to breed), dialectical Norwegian fukka (to copulate), and dialectical Swedish fucka (to strike, copulate) and f*ck (penis).

This points to a possible etymology where Common Germanic ***–, by reverse application of Grimm's law, would have as its most likely Indo-European ancestor *pug–, which appears in Latin and Greek words meaning "fight" and "fist" (cf. the Latin-derived English words pugnacious = "combative", and pugilist = "fighter, boxer"). In early Proto-Germanic the word was likely used at first as a slang or euphemistic replacement for an older word for intercourse, and then became the usual word for intercourse.'

The term motherf*cker became more 'popular' in the 1960s - 1970s, but the true origin can't honestly be pinned. It basically means someone who has intercourse with their own mother, an insult of incest or perhaps of being a mama's boy.

Hope that helped,

Cheers!
Reply:the theory of it being African-American in nature and the theory goes like this: back in the slavery days, it is very common for slave women to be raped by the slave owners. The children born out of these unions were taught not to call these rapists “father” but, you guessed it - “************”.
Reply:I don't know about the "mother" part, but the other word is a very old Saxon word.
